I downloaded the last of the Tom Waits albums tonight.. the ones I didn't already own. Gravely, heartbreaking, bizarre, vivid and brilliant. He's got to be the most underappreciated artist of the century. Beatnik purists may disagree, but fuck 'em. Particularity haunting are the albums, Mule Variations & Raindogs..

Normally I'd spend Friday night semi conscious with friends.. Good conversation, well.. Mediocre conversation but but good company. Tonight I'm going to crawl into my pajamas, pour a brandy and drift into a Waits induced dream. Maybe be inspired to compose a little. If anything I'll slip a bit further into my dark, pretty sadness. If I could crawl into bed with someone's voice...

Today I bought a pirate hat at the grocery store. It was in the Halloween aisle and I couldn't seem to get down the aisle without putting it in my cart next to the peanut butter.

I bought a pirate hat and hurt someone whom I care about. Not while wearing the pirate hat, mind you. After I took the hat off.. I hurt someone.. and I feel bad. But I had to do it. Maybe the pirate hat gave me the confidence I needed to say what had to be said. A pirate doesn't care about other people's feelings.

Pirates suck.
